Timothy Coffey’s goal is to help others explore their own emotions through music. He actively shares the importance of careful practice and exciting performance in a way that will carry beyond music and into the lives of others. Timothy is pursuing a career that combines performance with the collegiate studio professor experience.
Timothy studies under Dr. Richard Faria at Ithaca College where he is currently a senior Clarinet Performance major. This coming fall he will begin studying with Dr. Jeremy Reynolds at the Lamont School of Music for his M.M. in Performance, where he will serve as the Newman Fellow.
During his time at Ithaca College, Timothy has served as principal Clarinet of the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, as well as Ithaca College’s premier Wind Ensemble for many consecutive semesters. The orchestral setting is Timothy’s primary musical interest and focus. In line with his passion for orchestral performance, Timothy is extremely honored to have attended the Aspen Music Festival and School this past summer.
Timothy enjoys playing chamber music as well and was an avid collaborator with his peers at Ithaca College, including premiering Ethan Pinckert's Thought Pattern for two clarinets in April 2023. Under the direction of Chris Coletti and Ho-Yin Kwok, Timothy was involved with the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at Ithaca College, and has recently done a live performance of Kevin Puts' "Einstein on Mercer Street" with the ensemble.
Timothy was recently selected as a winner at the Ithaca College Concerto Competition, where he performed the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto at the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra 2022-2023 season finale.
Timothy has received master classes from clarinetists Paul Cho, Charles Neidich, Ayako Oshima, Pavel Vinnitsky, Julian Bliss, and Narek Arutyunian, where he has received praise for his attention to detail, tone, and sense of style.
