Sava Vemić

SAVA VEMIĆ, born 1987 in Belgrade, studied music and voice at the University of Arts in his hometown and continued it as a member of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program (LYADP) under mentorship of Maestro James Levine where he spent 3 years. At the Met Opera he was studying with singers such as Renata Scotto, Dimitirs Kavrakos, Bonaldo Giaiotti and Sherrill Milnes among many others. In the new upcoming 2020/21 season Sava is going to make his role debut as the King of England Enrico VIII/Anna Bolena and reappear as Sarastro/Magic flute, Gremin/Eugene Onegin and Comendatore/Don Giovanni in Munich's Gärtnerplatztheater. Due to corona virus pandemic his appearance with Boston Symphony Orchestra and recording of opera Lady Macbeth with Deutsche Grammophon is postponed for further date. His appearance in the role of Giove in the world premier of the new opera Bruno o il Teatro della Memoria at La Monnaie Opera in Brussels is postponed for the beginning of 2023. In his 2019/20 season he returned to Opéra de Paris where he appeared as un Frate (and covered the role of Kind Philip)/Don Carlo, Prince Bouillon/Adriana Lecouvreur and Monterone/Rigoletto. This season he started in the role of Sarastro/Magic flute at the Goethe Theater in Bad Lauchstädt, Germany. In his 2018/19 season he appeared as Sarastro/Magic Flute at the New National Theatre Tokyo, as Death/Emperor of Atlantis in Sevilla and later on at the Opéra de Paris appeared as The Chief of the Police/Lady Macbeth of Mzensk and Angelotti/Tosca and as Ramfis/Aida at the Belgrade National Theater. In the 2017/18 season he appeared as Sparafucile/Rigoletto at the Verbier festival in Switzerland and in Aix en Provence festival as Ein Lakai/Ariadne auf Naxsos and as Gremin/Eugene Onegin in Hawaii Opera Theater. In 2016-17 season Sava Vemić made his debut at The Metropolitan Opera as High Priest in Verdi’s Nabucco conducted by James Levine. In January he performed his first Gremin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugenie Onegin (Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra) followed by his second Carnegie Hall appearance as bass soloist in Haydn’s Nelsson Mass, with the New York Choral Society. Earlier this season he sung Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Guatemalan National Theatre. In 2015-16 Sava Vemić appeared as Count Rodolfo in Bellini’s La Sonnambula within a production of the Met’s Opera Young Artist program at the Juilliard Theatre, NYC; as Ernesto in Donizetti’s Parisina d’Este with the Opera Orchestra of New York (OONY) at Rose Theatre, NYC and as bass soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass at Carnegie Hall. In 2014-15 season he sung Sir Walter Raleigh in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux with OONY making his debut at Carnegie Hall, Arcas in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide at the Juilliard Theatre, Osmin in Mozart’s The Abduction from Seraglio with the International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI) in Tel Aviv, Israel and Redžep in S. Binički’s opera At Dawn at the National Theatre in Belgrade. His professional operatic debut as Sarastro in Mozart’s Magic flute at the Madlenianum Opera&Theatre in Belgrade dates back to 2013. Sava Vemić received several awards, including first Prizes at the 2016 Opera Index International Vocal Competition in NYC and the 2014 Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition and second prize winner at the 2017 Loren L. Zachary International Competition in Los Angeles and NYC and was the finalist of the 2017 International Belvedere competition.
