Young composers have been hailed as "the next Mozart" for generations, but how did composers interpret Mozart’s legacy? Join Parlando as it explores Mozart’s impact on classical music, culminating in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mozart and Salieri, the precursor to the Oscar-winning film Amadeus.
The program includes Reynaldo Hahn’s charming Mozart Overture and Alfred Schnittke’s witty tribute to the 18th century, Moz-Art à la Haydn, before concluding with Rimsky Korsakov’s one-act opera, Mozart and Salieri, featuring Joseph Parrish as Salieri and Daniel McGrew as Mozart.

Mozart’s riveting masterpiece follows Don Giovanni, a man who uses people without a care for their hearts, or the consequences. All the while, the Don’s servant Leporello records his master’s misdeeds. By killing the father of a woman he’s attacked, Giovanni sets in motion events that could lead to his end. Will he get away with his unrepentant pursuit of selfish desire or will there be hell to pay?

Biography
Joseph Parrish, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, holds a Master's Degree from The Juilliard School. He has appeared as a soloist with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, American Classical Orchestra, and at the Usedom Musikfestival. Parrish is an Artist Diploma candidate in Opera Studies at the Juilliard School. In addition, he is a member of the inaugural cohort of Shared Voices with the Denyce Graves Foundation. Recent credits include winning first prize in the Gerda Lissner Art Song Vocal Competition and Young Concert Artists International Competition, an encouragement award from the Duncan Williams Voice Competition, and a 2023 Schwab Vocal Rising Star at Caramoor residency the roles of Sodbuster in Vavrek and Mazzoli's Proving Up, and the title role in the Gianni Schicchi at Juilliard, a 2023 Queen Elisabeth Voice Competition Semi-Finalist, 2023 Bayreuth Stipendiate Recipient, and 2023-2024 Young Performers Career Advancement Program participant with APAP.
