Biography

Dominic Veilleux

Praised for his rich voice and his comic and dramatic skills, French-Canadian bass-baritone Dominic Veilleux is an alumnus of the Calgary Opera McPhee Artist Program. Dominic made his debut with Opéra de Québec in 2014 as the Servant in Macbeth. The same year, he was seen as D’Estillac (La veuve joyeuse). Since then, he has sung the roles of Erster Priester (Die Zauberflöte), Marco (Gianni Schicchi), Fiorello (Le Barbier de Séville) and Marchese d'Obigny (La traviata). As part of the Festival d’opéra de Québec, he was a member of the much appreciated Brigade lyrique, and sang in the chorus for The Tempest, La damnation de Faust and Der fliegende Holländer. During the 2016 edition of the festival, he was seen in both productions of Salieri’s Prima la musica, poi le parole and Mozart’s Le directeur de théâtre. In 2017, he was seen as Leporello (Don Giovanni) and in 2018 as Agamemnon (La belle Hélène), both in collaboration with Jeunesses Musicales Canada. Other opera credits include Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Albert (Werther), Escamillo (Carmen), Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni). On the concert stage, Dominic sang Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, Fauré’s Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Bach’s Osteroratorium and Himmelsfahrtoratorium, and Mozart’s Requiem. In 2021, Dominic was a finalist of the prestigious Prix d’Europe competition, and is supported by the Jeunesses Musicales Foundation and the Art song Foundation of Canada.
