Biography

Cory McGee

Hailing from Stafford, Virginia, bass Cory McGee starts the 2020-2021 season performing the roles of Don Quichotte, Massenet’s Don Quichotte, and Don Inigo, Ravel’s L’Heure espagnole, in the Studio Showcase with Houston Grand Opera. In Winter 2021, McGee joined Lawrence Brownlee and Nicole Heaston as part of HGO’s Giving Voice. Future engagements this season include a role debut as Theseus in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Santa Fe Opera and additional concert work singing Schubert’s Schwanengesang as part of the HGO Studio Recital Series. McGee first joined Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Artist for the 2019 season, he looks forward to returning to Santa Fe as a 2021 Apprentice Artist. Last summer, Mr. McGee returned to Wolf Trap Opera, where he was seen in scenes from Britten’s Billy Budd, Puccini’s La bohème, Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Blanchard’s Champion. In 2018, he was first seen with Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist, performing the role of La Voce in Mozart's Idomeneo, and Ranger Nat in Hanlon's Listen, Wilhelmina!. Recent performances include Publio in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito and Sodbuster in Mazzoli’s Proving Up with Rice Opera Theatre, the title role of Figaro in Oberlin Opera Theatre’s production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with Arezzo Opera Festival. Praised by Palm Beach Arts Paper for his “powerful, clarion voice,” McGee has performed several roles with the Miami Music Festival: Colline in Puccini’s La bohème, Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, and Reverend John Hale in Ward’s The Crucible.
