Biography

Alexandra Gorman

Alexandra Gorman is a Cuban-American soprano based out of Houston, Texas.  Alexandra will make her debut with Ars Lyrica Houston in September 2022 and will be featured again with Ars Lyrica Houston in December 2022. ​ Alexandra made her role debut as Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (Red River Lyric Opera, 2022). Previously performed operatic roles include Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare, Rosina in Mozart’s La finta semplice (Moores Opera Center), the title role of Calisto in Cavalli’s La Calisto (Red River Lyric Opera), Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Moores Opera Center). Other highlights include Papagena in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (UNT Opera Theatre) as well as covering the role of Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo (Opera NEO). ​ In addition to her operatic experience, Alexandra has performed many roles in the genres of operetta and musical theatre.  She has sung many of the leading ladies of Gilbert & Sullivan's operettas including Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Gianetta in The Gondoliers, Rose Maybud in Ruddigore, Phyllis in Iolanthe, and Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore (Cimarron Opera). Alexandra has also performed the roles of Anne in Sondheim's A Little Night Music (Moores Opera Center) and Johanna in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd (Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma). ​ In concert, Alexandra recently performed as a soloist in Bach's BWV 3 and Vivaldi's Magnificat with The Mercury Singers (Mercury Chamber Orchestra, 2022). Previous concert experience includes the role of Lieschen in Bach’s Kaffeekantate as well as the soprano solo in Handel’s Messiah (Enid Symphony). She was also scheduled to sing in the chorus of a concert performance of Verdi’s Don Carlo with The Dallas Opera, but this performance was cancelled due to COVID-19. ​ Alexandra completed her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy (2022) at the University of Houston Moores School of Music.
