Biography

Naomi Brigell, mezzo-soprano, is quickly gaining recognition as an “expressive, athletic and strong-voiced” presence on the operatic stage (Naples Daily News). Brigell was slated for an exciting 2019-2020 season, including her role debut as Olga in Eugene Onegin with Opera in the Heights and a return to Opera Saratoga as a Festival Artist, both of which were canceled due to COVID-19. Previously, she debuted with Chicago Opera Theater in the world premiere of Freedom Ride. Brigell's 2018-19 season included joining Opera Saratoga as a Festival Artist to cover the role of Hänsel, a return to Des Moines Metro Opera to perform an extensive tour for audiences of all ages, and performing the role of Genevieve in Hindemith's The Long Christmas Dinner with Chicago Fringe Opera. In 2018, Brigell joined Opera Naples as a resident artist, performing the roles of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Giannetta in L'elisir d'amore. She then joined Des Moines Metro Opera as an Apprentice Artist, singing the role of Third Wood Sprite in Rusalka. Other recent roles include Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Sesto in La clemenza di Tito, and Zulma (Isabella cover) in L'Italiana in Algeri. On the concert stage, Brigell has appeared as a soloist with Palm Beach Symphony, Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church, and Houston Lutheran Chorale. Other accolades include the grand prize in the Kristin Lewis Foundation Competition, first runner-up in the Madame Rose Competition, and the prestigious Dimmock Award at Boston University. Naomi Brigell holds a BM from Boston University and a MM from U. of Houston
"One of the delights of the play is Naomi Brigell, an Opera Naples resident artist this year, as its teenage page boy, the sunny, oversexed Cherubino. Expressive, athletic and strong-voiced, she lights up every scene she's in." - Naples Daily News
