Biography

Ashley made her professional debut with Opera Philadelphia in 2017 as Papagena in the Barrie-Kosky production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. The following season she sang Musetta in La bohème with the company, earning praise for her “crystalline vocal sparkle” and “wonderfully complex” performance (Parterre Box). She also presented a number of recitals with Opera Philadelphia, including two for the O18 festival recital series Fridays at Field. She was a member of their Emerging Artist Program from 2017-19.

Ashley was accepted to the prestigious Merola Opera Program for the summer of 2020. She was to make her role debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, which has now been postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the summer of 2019, Ashley was a studio artist with the esteemed Wolf Trap Opera Company. She covered multiple roles with the company, performed in their recital series Little Lunch Music, and made her role debut as Echo in Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos.

A passionate interpreter of recital and chamber music, Ashley has performed in recital tours and recital series since 2013. From 2016-19 she presented a staged rendition of Hugo Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch alongside pianist Mikael Eliasen and baritone Dennis Chmelensky with Curtis on Tour, Music for Montauk, and the La Jolla Athenaeum.

Ashley was a young artist with Music From Angel Fire in August of 2019, where she performed chamber music alongside Ida Kavafian, Peter Wiley, Peter Llyod, Toby Appel, Cathy Meng-Robinson, Pamela Pyle, and esteemed colleagues from the Curtis Institute of Music.
The same could be said of Ashley Marie Robillard, who makes a delectable Musetta. She delivers her character’s signature aria “Quando m’en vo” with coquettish charm, but she doesn’t rely on the stock gestures one often sees in this role—no batted eyelashes, no little-girl flounces, just solid singing and real stage chops.
