Biography

Stephanie Sanchez

Praised as a “major talent” by Opera Today, Stephanie Sanchez has quickly established herself as an exciting mezzo-soprano on the rise.  Her diverse repertoire ranges from Handel to Wagner and she has also been a champion of contemporary opera, recently premiering several works by American composers.  The fall of 2020 will mark Ms Sanchez’ return to Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as an artist in residence. There she will be creating online virtual content including the role of Ruth in Pirates of Penzance. For the 2019-20 season, Ms. Sanchez joined Opera San José as a resident principal artist where she sang the roles of Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Azucena in the student matinee of Il trovatore, and Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte. In 2018, Ms. Sanchez was chosen as the sole recipient of the prestigious Igor Gorin Award, given out once a year to help gifted vocalists begin successful careers in opera. Ms. Sanchez joined Arizona Opera as a Studio Artist for the 2017-2018 and was also a member of the Young Artist and Festival Artist programs at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis from 2014-2016.  Other notable companies of engagements include The Glimmerglass Festival, Houston Grand Opera, Brava Opera Theater, Intermountain Opera, Teatro Nuovo, Sarasota Opera, Opera Maine, and Atlanta Opera.  Ms. Sanchez won first place in the 2016 Young Texas Artist Music Competition, second place in Opera Connecticut’s 2016 Opera Idol Competition, and was a finalist in the 2019 Brava Opera Theater Competition.
