Biography

Jessica Rizzio

Jessica Rizzio is an engaging lyric coloratura soprano with an affinity for bel canto and romantic operatic roles. Her recent performances include excerpts as Desdemona in Otello, Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette

Jessica has performed opera, oratorio and song repertoire throughout New England, with the Boston Early Music Festival, Madison Lyric Stage, Opera Connecticut, Hartford Opera Theater, and Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Some of her favorite performances were as the Dew Fairy/Gretel (cover) in Hansel and Gretel with Madison Lyric Stage, as well as Micaëla in Carmen in concert with Opera Connecticut at the historic Hill-Stead Museum.  Jessica has musical roots in Mozart and early music as well, as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas.  She has also performed as the Soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, and Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915.

Jessica has been a soloist and section leader in Catholic music ministries for over 20 years.  She has had the honor to sing at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston, where she performed in concert with acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma for President Barack Obama, and the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford. She currently cantors at St. Thomas & St. Timothy Parish in West Hartford, where she was featured in their October Benefit Concert for Haiti, performing the well-loved Flower Duet from Lakmé.

Jessica is a graduate of New England Conservatory (BM) and The Hartt School (MM), with additional training throughout Italy and France.  She currently resides in West Hartford with her husband and teaches voice at The Hartt School Community Division.
