Jonathan Bryan

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Bryan has been praised for his “beautifully resonant baritone,” and “substantial sound,” and has performed leading roles on stages throughout the United States and abroad. He is an alumnus of The Atlanta Opera Studio, Wolf Trap Opera, and The Glimmerglass Festival, and he joins The Washington National Opera for the 2020-2021 season as a Caftriz Young Artist.

Biography

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Bryan has been praised for his “beautifully resonant baritone,” and “substantial sound,” and has performed leading roles on stages throughout the United States and abroad. He is an alumnus of The Atlanta Opera Studio, Wolf Trap Opera, and The Glimmerglass Festival, and he was a 2019 Georgia District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He joins The Washington National Opera for the 2020-2021 season as a Caftriz Young Artist.

Career highlights for Mr. Bryan include his international debut at the Château de Versailles in Versailles, France as Beaumarchais in John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, a role which he debuted with The Glimmerglass Festival in 2019. Other roles performed with The Glimmerglass Festival are Baron Dauphol in Francesca Zambello’s production of La traviata and Lieutenant Gordon in Tomer Zvulun’s production of Kevin Putz’ and Mark Cambell‘s Silent Night. He covered the leading roles in Eugene Onegin and Dead Man Walking at The Atlanta Opera with performances as Motorcycle Cop/Prison Guard 1 and Zaretsky/Captain, respectively. Other role highlights include the title character in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Danilo in Lehár’s The Merry Widow, Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Owen Hart in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, and Rambaldo in Puccini’s La Rondine.
